Central and Eastern Oregon
The wild landscape of Central and Eastern Oregon runs deep with history and diversity.
To the north, the mighty Columbia River meanders her way through 4,000 ft canyons. In 1986 it was signed into law as a National Scenic Area. In the central part of the state, lies the high desert and scenic Three Sisters Wilderness, Ochoco and Deschutes Mountains. To the south are the Steens Mountains. They too, have stunning carved gorges, wild rivers and are home to an abundance of wildlife. It is some of the most rugged and remote land still left in Oregon. My adrenaline continues to be fueled by adventure and exploring new places of historical significance that shaped the landscape. This gallery takes me back into our forgotten past of what we did, or didn't do to build our future.

This barn has definitely seen better days, but like all man-made structures there comes a time when it needs to be rebuilt or replaced. Until then, it continues to remain standing above the tall grass on the prairie floor.

on March 27, 2022Hi Robert, I know you're taking a break - and trust me we all need to do that occasionally. I so enjoy your photos and I haven't been through all of the galleries yet, so I thought I'd come over and browse a bit. This photo is one that I would have taken too. I so appreciate that you record and preserve so many of the old homes, barns and such before they are no more. I must say that this one really speaks to me as we had a very similar barn when I was a kid. It's a testament to the builders that even though it's suffering from the years and weather, it's still standing. Awesome image!
