This is low tide at Moolack Beach and the Yaquina Bay Lighthouse.
The exposed basalt rock barrier on the shoreline was formed 15 million years ago by lava flow during the Astoria Formation.

on March 16, 2022It is amazing the change in the scenes at both low & high tide. I like this because I can see the structure of the underlying beach with it's little pools. And, the soft mist (or fog) in the background along the larger ledge of rock adds a very magical quality to the photo. Thanks too for the information about the formation of the rock.
